Where it started

Continuation of the Amplif-AI Artifacts Special Effects Playground (69 effects, 9 categories, single self-contained index.html, live as a private Claude Artifact). Sondra reviewed the current effects and does NOT like the look β€” they read "characterized, like comic," not the realism/polish of 21st.dev. She wants BETTER OUTPUT across the board, and asked to understand WHY 21st.dev looks real and hers don't. Key catches: Starfield background drifts way too fast; some cards "don't seem to do anything" (she's unsure if hover is supposed to trigger them). Her explicit ask: produce one true-21st.dev-quality exemplar for EVERY category so she can decide β€” she's not judging from descriptions, she needs to SEE the upgrade per category.

Decisions locked + what shipped

  1. Darkness dominates β€” near-black canvas, ONE or TWO soft light sources. Current effects fail by packing bright saturated color everywhere (the #1 "cartoon" tell).
  2. Softness = depth β€” heavy blur, translucency, film grain, mix-blend-mode, frosted glass (backdrop-filter: blur). Current uses hard edges + solid gradients (reads flat/drawn).
  3. Slow, eased motion β€” 20–40s loops, cubic-bezier easing / spring feel. Current (esp. Starfield) is fast + linear = cheap/dizzying.
  4. Fine detail β€” 1px semi-transparent hairline borders, subtle noise, real type weight hierarchy.
